Systems Change Lab SW

Our approach

Where biology meets systems.

In our experience, change rarely stalls because people don't care or lack good ideas. More often, two realities get overlooked. We've overlooked them ourselves.

Biology

It's easy to assume that change happens through better thinking. Biology tells a different story. When pressure rises, our nervous systems, emotions, beliefs and learned protective strategies shape what we notice, what feels possible and how we respond. When we lose the capacity to stay present under stress, even the best strategy struggles to take root.

Systems

It's easy to assume that changing people changes the system. Systems tell a different story. Organisations, communities and institutions develop patterns, incentives, relationships and structures that continually shape behaviour. Without changing those conditions, even the most capable people are drawn back into familiar ways of working and relating.

We work where biology meets systems. Human capacity and system design continually shape one another.

The RE model

Our work unfolds across four interconnected dimensions.

RE-wire

Expanding human capacity to navigate pressure, uncertainty and change. Developing the awareness, regulation and resilience needed to remain creative when circumstances become challenging.

RE-late

Strengthening relationships so people can navigate difference, conflict and complexity together. Building trust that can hold under pressure.

RE-imagine

Creating the conditions for new possibilities to emerge. Helping people see beyond inherited assumptions and imagine futures that existing systems cannot yet produce.

RE-structure

Designing organisations and systems that support life. Aligning governance, decision-making, incentives and ways of working with the future we are trying to create.

Four lenses

Depending on the work, we move between four complementary perspectives.

01

The Bio-Mechanic

Working with the biology of change: helping individuals and teams expand their capacity under pressure through regulation, integration and embodiment.

02

The Guide

Making hidden dynamics visible: revealing the assumptions, patterns and relationships that shape behaviour.

03

The Architect

Designing healthier systems: supporting organisations to redesign structures, governance and ways of working so they reinforce rather than undermine the change they seek.

04

The Realist

Holding the wider context: helping organisations respond honestly to the realities shaping our future (climate, technology, security, economics and social change) without becoming overwhelmed by them.

How we work

From one person to whole systems.

We work across every level of change, from individuals and relationships to teams, organisations and whole systems.

Our practice combines coaching, facilitation, mediation, organisational development, strategic advisory and systems thinking.

Sometimes the work begins with one person. Sometimes it begins with a leadership team. Sometimes it begins with a whole community.

The starting point is always the same: understanding what is happening beneath the surface.
